Engaging your Employees & Improving their Experience

You've heard it all before.  "Employee expectations are changing", "we now have 5 generations in the workforce", "the gig economy is here", "millennials have different needs", "everyone now expects flexible working"! 

On top of all of this, you need to run your business, satisfy your ever more discerning customers, keep your owners / venture capitalists / shareholders happy and ensure you have the right people, with the right skills, who are motivated and engaged to make all this happen... woah, I'm tired just thinking about it!

Why it matters

It's true, there is a lot a business owner or leader needs to consider.  However tapping into the potential and discretionary effort of your people is really important.  They will act as your biggest advocates or detractors, all based on their experience and engagement, and your customers' experience will generally mirror that of your employees, created from the inside out.

Thankfully when it comes to people and their needs, a few key principles tend to do the trick. People are complex, there is no doubt about it, however at our core most of us have very similar needs and desires. We want to feel valued, appreciated, suitably challenged, like we're growing and we belong. We need to feel in control, like we have a say and can influence our surroundings.
